Guided Imagery For Self Healing
What is Guided Imagery?
This therapy employs a range of techniques from - simple visualization and direct imagery-based suggestion through metaphor and storytelling. Guided imagery helps in psycho-physiological relaxation, relieving aches and pain symptoms, stimulating healing response from bodily trauma i.e. injuries or surgery, and helps people in tolerating procedures and treatments more easily.
Academy for Guided Imagery names this process "Interactive Guided Imagery" (IGI) in which imagery is used interactively to evoke a patient’s autonomy. This help patients ways to draw on their own inner resources to support the healing, make suitable adaptations to changes in their health, and understand their symptoms may be signaling.
Conventional (allopathic) doctors are trained to diagnose and treat physical symptoms and other observable manifestations of many diseases and illnesses. They and their interventions are capable in providing definitive relief, which can be even lifesaving. But many a times, however, their help does not result in a good result. This usually happens when a doctor fails to diagnose the source of common symptom as a disease condition. In chronic diseases / situations conventional doctors’ often resort to providing some relief from symptoms but can do little or nothing about the damage or suffering that the underlying condition has caused or will during the treatment. People with chronic conditions /illness need not only excellent medical care but more attention to their invisible aspects of health care that are accessible only through their own awareness. A skilled clinician trained in guided imagery skills can be very helpful in such patients by helping patients to help them with their innate healing powers.
